The little yellow crab spider remained almost unnoticeable until it moved from the yellow blossom to the green leaves. With their first four legs are larger than the hind legs, crab spiders have the capability of walking forward, backward, or sideways like a crab.

A couple of brief showers rolled through this evening and it is fun to look at the billowing clouds off in the distance as they quickly change shape or even catch a glimpse of lightning in clouds.

A deer has been wandering around in my yard the last week and she was only a few feet away from my basement door this morning. It probably was the same deer I scared later this afternoon when I was mowing my lawn, as it not one of the two does with little fawns.

When I see a bee, I think of honey, but most people not have a warm association with wasps, even though wasps do serve a purpose of eating insects and keeping other insect populations under control. But I still don’t like wasps as my body don’t like them and with one stinging me on the nose, I spent six hours at urgent care today with a very swollen face.

With the cooler temperatures and less humidity, I can finally have the windows open again and I heard the bluebird singing today besides the noisy wrens and the frogs add to the nature sounds when evening approaches.

Besides white-tail deer enjoying the leaves to eat, the monarch butterfly likes blossoms of the American Mountain Ash tree. This tree will have bright orange-red berries in the fall which many species of birds will eat.

After the storms moved through yesterday, the bee and ant enjoyed the sunny and drier day as they gathered on the milkweed blossoms.

Mother Nature continued with its own version of fireworks for the 4th and many firework displays were cancelled or cut short when additional thunderstorms redeveloped.
Storm Rolling In
Some communities have their firework display scheduled for tonight, but nature provided its own fireworks in the form of lightning as the thunderstorms arrived this afternoon with much needed rain, although with the dry, hard ground a lot of the rain probably ran off without soaking in. There was wind and hail too and just as the storm was ending, the power went out. But a rainbow also appeared in the sky as the storm moved away.

A half mile trail downstream from the High Falls on the Baptism River is the Two Step Falls and this is the upper step of that waterfall. And on a hot Sunday, it would feel nice to wade in the water between the two steps of the waterfall.
