While the dogs were enjoying the water while playing fetch, I waded into the water looking for that perfect “pretty” rock. The rocks look more colorful when wet but sometimes when I reached into the water for a rock, a wave moved it before I could grab it. And the rock may never been seen again by me.

While some dogs don’t enjoy water, especially baths, other dogs love the water and a dip in Lake Superior is a refreshing way to cool off on a summer day while playing fetch. I just don’t want to be near a long haired dog when it shakes the water from its fur.

After a windy storm, the waters around sandy bottoms often turn a brown color from all the sediment stirred up.
Muddy Water
With the temperature predicted to be in the 90s tomorrow and being the holiday weekend, this beach probably will have a lot more visitors enjoying cooler waters of Lake Michigan. Whitefish Dunes State Natural Area preserves the largest Great Lakes dunescape in Wisconsin. The area consists of active and stabilized sand dunes, including Old Baldy, the tallest dune which rises 93 feet above lake level.

A trip to the beach is a nice treat on a warm summer day, but someone has more creative skills than I do to build this nice sand castle. I hope the waves of Lake Michigan remained calm for a bit to allow the castle to remain awhile before the motion of the water reclaimed and leveled the sand.

On a hot Saturday afternoon with the temperature reaching 95, this beach probably has a lot more visitors even if the Lake Superior water temperature is still in the middle 40s.

This beach had more than just people enjoying the view as this dog was checking out the waves but it didn’t like getting its paws wet from the chilly water.

There is a different type of white on the shore of this beach during the winter and temperatures are lower than summer. But the temperature today, just at freezing, will be 50 degrees warmer if the predicted -20 happens this weekend.

I saw some turkey tracks in the snow today, but sometimes birds leave other evidence of their passing through an area, like a feather.
