The blazing star blossoms add a popof bright color amongst the other late season flowers. Several different varieties of blazing star are native to Wisconsin.
The insects are busy collecting nectar and pollen and the blazing star species are monarch magnets. There are many species of the blazing star but usually they have fluffy purple cluster on tall grass like spikes.
The summer flowers are attracting bees and butterflies but I didn’t have my camera while mowing today so I could only watch the giant swallowtail butterfly checking out the blossoms. A few days ago the blazing star flowers were a popular spot for fritillaries and monarchs.
