It stayed below freezing today so not much melting today, but at least no additional white stuff since I am tired of shoveling snow.
Cattails in Winter
The sunshine today was a bit deceiving this afternoon as the temperature dropped instead rising. The cold winter temperatures, like the predicted below zero for tonight, prevent any flower blooming outside. Old seed pods or dry flowers are about that I can find if not buried under the snow. The cattail seed pods have managed to stay above the snow so far this year.
Winter Cattails
The red-winged blackbirds have been very vocal and they are probably complaining that the pond is still covered in ice where they often build their nests among the cattails. But with nights below freezing, they better not try to lay eggs yet until it warms up to melt the ice and snow.
