Spotting yellow blossoms in a wet area, I assumed it would be marsh marigolds, but instead these poor dandelions having very wet feet as the wet spring continues.

I found a dandelion on the lawn today that was mostly closed up and wilted from the overnight very chilly temperature of 10. I was going to pick it and bring it inside so it could finish blooming but it had no stem that I could put in a vase as it was hugging close to the ground. It probably will be April before a hint of seeing another dandelion.

When I was mowing my lawn this afternoon, I noticed the dandelions near my south house wall have already gone to seed, and although I rather see the yellow stage, at least this white isn’t as bad as snowflakes blowing around.

Last year on Mother’s Day, I could not find three dandelions that were open that I needed for my tradition of giving them to my mom on the special day. This year, even with a late spring but with Mother’s Day almost a week later, it was much easier to find three dandelions as it was hard not to step on them.

I have a tradition of giving my mom three dandelion blossoms on Mother’s Day, but this year with the very late spring, I couldn’t find even one dandelion blooming. I did at least find a few buds so I picked them and put them under a lamp for hours trying to convince the dandelions to open. And by noon, I did have one fully open and two partially unfurled.

This scene from the middle of April twelve years looks very different than today as there is no green grass, no yellow blossoms and the white today is from the snow on the ground and not the white dandelion seed heads.

Although it seemed like it took forever for something to bloom this spring, as soon as I mowed the lawn, the dandelions popped overnight to carpet the ground in yellow.

The clouds prevented the day from feeling like it was above zero and the snow was another unwelcomed event. Instead of white snowflakes, I wouldn’t mind white dandelion seeds flying through the air as that would mean warmer conditions.

There was an air quality alert out today, due to the smoke from Canada and so sensitive people were warned to reduce heavy exertion outdoors. But work has to continue, especially on farms, and even critters and creatures carried on with their tasks. The bees were busy collecting pollen on this very warm day.

The temperature outside finally got above 50 but with only a few patches of ground showing in my yard, there were no signs of dandelions blooming or even leaves sprouting up. So I couldn’t give my mom her yellow birthday flowers this year.
