While only the third largest freshwater lake by volume, Lake Superior is the largest by surface area. The volume of water is impressive though at roughly three quadrillion gallons (which is enough water to cover both North and South America in one foot of water).
Lots of Water
Most large bodies of water have a mythological creature roaming its depths. One such being in Lake Superior is Mishipeshu, the Ojibwa name which translates to “the Great Lynx”. It has the head and paws of a giant cat but is covered in scales and has dagger-like spikes running along its back and tail. Maybe its head looks like this piece of driftwood.

It seemed like every time I went outside today, it started to rain. It even rained on me when I was at this beach last week and the tepee like structure didn’t provide a lot of cover from the raindrops.

This piece of driftwood looks like the skull and horns of animal, like maybe a long horned antelope.

While visiting a beach, I look for pretty rocks and interesting pieces of driftwood. This one was a way too big to fit in my bag or car. It reminds me of Stumpy from the movie Tremors and does look a bit like a monster.

After heavy rain which caused my pond to overflow can sometimes stir the water and make it difficult to see the fish in the water from the sediment, but it didn’t get churned up as much as sometimes Lake Superior can after a storm.
After the Storm
Since those dang robins haven’t returned yet, the snow today was wasted and that means at least three more snows before spring. The ground was white again but I rather see whitewashed driftwood instead, like this unique piece with the hole letting other color through it. It was sort of like the sunset tonight with only a small slit in the clouds for the peek of color.

As the daylight is increasing and the temperatures are slowly warming up, the recent snow near Lake Superior has melted and the lake shore hasn’t been covered in ice blocks for a while now so the driftwood is exposed again on the beach.

The strong waves on Lake Superior earlier this week rearranged the driftwood and rocks on the beaches providing a new look and a chance to discover interesting finds.

The piece driftwood looks like old bearded man wearing a hat an with huge arms trying to reach out and grab something. It would be nice if he was trying to grab some warmer weather but it must have slipped out of his hands.
