The winter cold water of Lost Creek Number One flows downstream after the falls and will merge together with Lost Creek Number Two and Lost Creek Number Three at the Lost Creek Bog as it empties into Lake Superior.

This is typically the coldest week of the year where I live, but instead of being below zero temperatures it was warm enough for rain instead of snow. The rain falling on the snow packed roads and driveways polished the ice more so it was difficult to walk outside to enjoy the warmer day until later in the evening when it switched back snow concealing the ice patches. I rather see water in a stream falling over rapids in the summer than rain falling from the skies in January.

After the fog lifted, there was some nice sunshine in the morning hours to enjoy an autumn walk in the woods before the clouds rolled back in by late afternoon.

Although the winds were really gusting today, they were not so bad in the woods so it made a nice day to hike along a creek bed as it was being decorated by falling leaves.

This stream almost looks like ice but unlike my sidewalk, it wasn’t icy and was a nice flowing creek, at least for a few more weeks before the winter freeze stiffens it.

At times today, the snowflakes were swirling around (even if nothing was showing up on the radar), but the snowflakes weren’t trapped in a whirlpool like these leaves were on Lost Creek downstream from the waterfall.
