There was a maple tree that often turned colors early, or at least certain branches of it did, and some years it started to color in August. But this year I can’t check to see if the leaves turned on it or not as that tree and several other pretty maple trees have been cut down recently.

Even though snowflakes fell this morning and started to coat the lawn, I refused to post a picture of early winter. It is better to see autumn leaves flying through the air and water in a lake than falling snowflakes, although I rather not see the end of autumn yet either.

With the sunshine today, the fall foliage seems to pop out even more, but it won’t last long and soon bare branches will be visible instead.
Yellow and Red
After several rainy days, it was nice to see a break in the clouds just after sunrise to allow the sun to highlight the colorful autumn maple leaves.

The Labor Day weekend, the birds heading south, the start of school and one of the final signs that summer is over is trees showing autumn colors. This tree always has sections of green leaves when other sections are displaying the bright red colors, almost in a Christmas theme. But while I love the autumn colors, I’m not ready for summer to be over yet.
Autumn Coming
The lawn had a new layer of yellow maple leaves on the ground from the wind after I mowed yesterday. The arrival of some sunny days for leaf peeping has come a little late for most of the majority of maple trees, but some color can still be found.

I saw some maple trees changing colors the last week of July. That doesn’t seem like a good sign and maybe the trees know winter will be a long one. Or maybe since the summer has been hotter than normal, the trees have calculated enough heating degrees that it should be autumn already.

The cloudy day looked rather dull today without any blue skies to see and definitely not as colorful as an autumn day when foliage displays bright colors.

The rain moved in by afternoon, shorting the dry leaf peeping time for today but next week may be a sunny week for viewing the changing foliage.
Color Before the Rain
The autumn colors seem to be slower in changing colors this year and I might have to travel to see more brilliant colors, since a warm, wet period fall like it has been here, will lower the intensity of autumn colors. And the reds need a number of warm, sunny autumn days and cool but not freezing nights come one after the other, but it has been cloudy until recently so maybe now the reds have a chance to turn brighter red.
