With the light rain today, this mushroom might not offer too much weather protection with its small cap for the wee mystical woodland fairies.
Cute Mushroom
When I was mowing today, I watched a deer eat some of my fallen apples, a rabbit scampering around, a bunch of toads hopping away, a mouse darting through the long grass and a grasshopper who hitched a ride on my mower, and I also saw a lot of mushroom which popped up in the last few days. They ranged in shapes, colors and sizes in the cooler fall days.
Fall Mushrooms
As foggy as it is here this morning, I would almost expect to see gnomes sneaking through the woods and hiding under the toadstools. But the gnomes probably wouldn’t be able to move very fast through the woods since it is difficult to run in snow pants and heavy coats since no green grass to sit on but snow instead. And they might need a tarp around their toadstool so they don’t get icy since the fog is a freezing fog.
Hideout for the Gnomes
Well since I posted a mushroom looking cloud yesterday, I guess I could post a white toadstool today.
The terms “mushroom” and “toadstool” go back centuries and were never precisely defined, nor was there consensus on application. The term “toadstool” was often, but not exclusively, applied to poisonous mushrooms or to those that have the classic umbrella-like cap-and-stem form.
I have no clue what kind of ‘mushroom’ or ‘toadstool’ it is, but since I’m only taking a picture and not eating it, it doesn’t matter to me.
