The snow shovels are getting a workout this month as more snow fell again today. Some of the roads looked like this railroad track with only a single set of tracks cutting through the snow covered road.

The gray days of November reveal mostly barren trees and grass turning brown from the freezing temperatures at night with Old Man Winter coming around the bend and will cover everything white soon.

On a nice Sunday afternoon, I’m sure the roads are filled with people looking at the autumn colors and some are taking train rides through the colorful railways. I didn’t take a train ride so I just have to picture that I did and pretend I rode the tracks around the bend to more colorful spots.

After several days of snowy, icy conditions and now several cold days on tap with -20 to -35 wind chills, I think it is about time that this ‘not so nice’ weather hit the tracks and head on out of here and let some color return to the landscape again.

Many of the birds have made tracks south and hopefully the hummingbirds have left since the sugar water froze the other night and could freeze again tonight.
There are only a handful of current railroad companies running on the tracks now in Wisconsin compared to all the companies that existed in the late 1880s. The tracks may exist yet if the small company merged with another but other tracks are no longer being used and some are now bike or hiking trails.
