The other day there was a dusting of snow and the strong winds swirled the snowflakes around. The winds also caused some other white to float on the breeze when some late milkweed pods released their seeds with white hairy parachutes.

A light scattering of snowflakes fell today. Summertime dandelion seeds or autumn milkweed pod seeds flying through the air would be a warmer event to enjoy.
Ready for Flight
With the temperatures down to zero, it is hard to find any colorful blooming flowers as most have gone to seed and will float away on windy days like white snowflakes.
Ready to Fly
I hope this is the white I see flying tomorrow and not snowflakes. The release of the seeds from the milkweed pods is another sign that winter is coming as it will be a while before the milkweed blossoms and green pods return (as well as the monarch butterflies).
Flying White
The winds of November help to disperse the milkweed seeds as they float in the air with their hair-like parachute. And there might not be any seeds left to fly after the next couple of gusty days and some of the seeds might be carried to unfriendly places and won’t be able to grow but some might find a suitable location and start a new colony of milkweed plants.

There was a lot of white on my lawn yesterday, but since it was 80 degrees yesterday, it wasn’t snow. Instead the dandelions were no longer yellow but now white with their seed dispersal sphere ready to release seeds into the wind. One seed is ready to take flight once the breeze catches it parachute to send it sailing in the air.
