With the rain that some areas have received this week has helped the water level on the rivers which allows more flow over the area waterfalls as the autumn colors begin to show.

I spent some time this afternoon scooping water away from the office door which was trapped by the snow banks and couldn’t drain away. But if I didn’t throw it far enough, the water would drain right back into my mini lake and it felt like a losing battle at times, like trying to empty the water out of the opening in the ice at Siskiwit Falls.

The Siskiwit Falls has a series of cascades and a few small drops like this one and although it is a small river, there is more flowing water than from the remaining patches of snow that slowly melted today in the cooler temperatures.

Although the day started out below freezing, it did warm briefly to 60 degrees to be able to enjoy some outdoor activities, like a hike along a cascading waterfall with the leaves turning their autumn colors.

It finally warmed above freezing today although not long enough to caused much melting. At least this small river has a little bit of flowing water under the ice.

Some of the “leaf peepers” might see the colorful leaves while they are enjoying a waterfall or cascades like at Siskiwit Falls at Cornucopia, Wisconsin. The Siskiwit Falls are a series of slides and drops totaling about twenty feet.

What a difference a month can make. The temperature was just barely above freezing but warm enough for the precipitation to be rain and not snow for the moment. Watching water falling drop down over rapids on a warm autumn day is more enjoyable than the cold rain this afternoon that will turn to snow tonight.
