By afternoon, the dew point dropped and the temperature was cooler so it was a great day for outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking or a cruise on the river.

Some of the rivers are flowing with white although not white foam, but chunks of ice instead. And at times they cause an ice jam which causes even more flooding, but in a few months the scene will look different.

The heavy rains in the northern part of the state has caused a lot of washed out roads and even caused a dam to break which released a flood of water. Some rivers are over flood stage and others are look very wild with the extra water.

Although it wasn’t stormy today, it was still a rainy day which could raise the river level slightly. The forecast of a drier day tomorrow may allow people to enjoy some time on the river on a summer day.

Various rock formations on the cliffs bordering the St. Croix River by the Interstate State Park have names, although a few take some imagination to see why they were named that, but it is easier to see a face in this rock formation which called Old Man of the Dalles.

Yesterday the clouds and river had some gentle swirls midday as people enjoyed the St. Croix River in kayaks, canoes and boats before the storms moved in later in the day. The little speck of orange from a kayak looks tiny against the rock cliffs where walls in the Dalles area rise from 50 to 250 feet above the river.
