My roof was dripping water from the melting snow but it wasn’t like a waterfall yet since it was only 40 and shaded but maybe this weekend it will melt more and frozen steams could start flowing again. This little waterfall in the Porcupine Mountains is often bypassed in search of taller and bigger falls, but it is a cute little treasure.

Some of the snow and ice was melting today since the temperature was above freezing for a while today, but it wasn’t warm enough to create any streams of running water across my lawn. And walking outside in the sunshine was a little tricky as the wet snow packed into ice under my feet. Walking along this stream and viewing the small rapids and falls is fun in the summer but could be a little treacherous in slippery snow like today.

Some people are more adventurous than I am and will hike the frozen trail back (after the snowy forest roads) to see this waterfall in the winter when it creates a pretty ice formation. I prefer the 1.2 mile hike in the summer when it is warmer than subzero temperatures to see the seventy foot falls, including this last bend for the final drop.

The wind and rain today would not make a fun day to explore waterfalls, unless they are a drive-by waterfall like Jacobs Falls in Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula. The last main drop before flowing into Lake Superior is twenty foot which can be seen from the car. If you are more adventurous, you can hike the trail to view more drops and slides as  the creek drops 200 feet in less than a quarter mile.
