A nice sunny October weekend allows visits to area parks and scenic places, such as Manabezho Falls on the Presque Isle River which has a drop of about 25 feet and about 150 feet across. The name Manabezho refers to an Ojibway spirit god.

Over ninety waterfalls can be found in the Porcupine Mountains and even more in the surrounding area in Upper Michigan. The biggest and tallest waterfalls get most of the attention or ones which are easy to hike to. One of the overlooked falls is appropriately named Overlooked Falls. The small falls consists of two drop of about five feet each drop, so not as impressive as waterfalls in the area dropping forty feet or more, but it a scenic little falls as the water splits around the rocks on the upper drop.

Some waterfalls dry up in the autumn or have low flow but this wet fall has some running at much higher levels.

With the rain pouring down this evening, I imagine there will be some runoff since the soil is already saturated.

With a predicted dry and nice autumn weekend, some may enjoy the days at parks and other scenic features as well as color leaf looking.
Weekend Trip to Waterfalls
The supposedly sunny week didn’t last very long since rain is falling but hopefully the amounts will be light so no more flooding. The Houghton Falls was flowing with more water than normal after a heavy rain fall.

The rain falling today has caused flash flood warnings in the area, so there may be areas with flowing water that are normally dry. I prefer watching known waterfalls than the unexpected ones.
Small Cascades Ahead of a Big Drop
With the long holiday weekend, some people headed to the lakes and parks today to enjoy some of nature’s beauty, like this waterfall which only runs when the main river flow is high enough to supply the offshoot stream.
Now and Then Falls Still Flowing
The recent waves of rain showers have caused heavy rains in some areas but light amounts of rainfall in nearby areas, so while some rivers are running full, others like this stream barely flow. But even though the flow is light, it still creates a pretty waterfall.
Low Flow
Thunder was heard yesterday afternoon, but there was not much rainfall from it and the sun would peek out in between the light rain shower. Walking through a waterfall would provide a cold shower, even if the waterfall wasn’t a big one.
