Water was dripping off the roof as the snow melted on the warmer day and I added some water to the ground too as I washed the salt off my car. But the volume of running water was nowhere like the flow of the Ontonagon River before it makes several drops at Bond Falls.
Bond Upper Cascades
Listening to the forecast this evening and hearing about the temperatures falling again made me feel cold even before it drops to zero. The drops I like to see are decreasing gas prices so I can visit more northern Wisconsin waterfalls to watch the rivers drop in elevation as they make their way down to the lake. Superior Falls, last 65 foot drop of the Montreal River, is just a few hundred yards from Lake Superior on the Wisconsin and Michigan border.
Dropping Water
Meteorological winter starts tomorrow and with some predicted snow and wind, it probably will look and feel like a white winter wonderland for the start of December. But I rather see white in the form of foam caused by lovely waterfalls instead, especially on a nice summer day hike where you don’t have to be bundled up in coats and hats.

I watched the wind swirl the white snowflakes around like a tornado on this chilly day, but I’m getting to be a wimp as I rather see white water swirls on a summer day instead.

This little falls is the top drop of the Twin Falls before the wider and taller plunge of Larson Creek, but at the moment I have more water overflowing from my little pond than the waterfall due to several rainy days.

A walk along a river and especially by a waterfall would have felt good today on this warm late summer day. The flow of water for this waterfall can vary greatly from year to year late in the year depending summer rain fall but rarely has the heavy flow like during spring snow melt time which covers the entire width of the river bed.

The late summer day was very pleasant today, and nice weather often happens after the kids are back in school. But after schools are back in session, it does leaves the hiking trails less crowded to enjoy on a nice sunny day like following this narrow gorge the river has cut and listening to the small waterfall.
Temperance River
The lower dew points the last couple of days and a shift in the wind direction, have made pleasant days for outdoor activities like nature hikes especially to visit waterfalls. Miners blasting in 1902, caused the Bad River flow to be directed more to the east side which accelerated the erosion on that side so the height of that channel of Copper Falls is only 8 feet, down from the original height of 30 feet.
Redirected Water
On a hot summer day, feeling the cold mist from this waterfall would feel good. And it was giving off mist as I wasn’t able to keep my camera lens free from water spots when I tried to take photos at a different viewing location even though it only falls 30 feet instead of the next drop of 165 farther downstream.
Viewing Little Manitou Falls
The weekend enabled more people to head to the water to cool off, including waterfalls where some ventured through the falling water to stand behind the falls. With my luck, I would have slipped and rolled down the falls.
