The summer may be winding down, but there are still some nice days to enjoy a day at a beach listening and watching some small waves rolling in as they crash against the rocks.

The wind was lighter today than the past few days so the waves have lessen on Lake Superior but the forecast has stronger gusts again on Sunday which will likely bring back the Gales of November.

The winds were gusting today and often that would stir the waters up on Lake Superior as the waves crash in, but today the winds were blowing out instead of in so even with the high wind gusts, the lake was fairly calm (at least by this lighthouse but not on the other end of the lake). But earlier this year, it was a different story and the water turned brown from the churning the crashing waves caused.

Any day reaching 40 in February is a plus and it was warm enough for me to wash some of the salt off my vehicle. I could have used some wave action to help wash all the dirt and salt that the winter roads have left behind but with more winter days, it will be coated again soon.

The sunshine was out today and the temperature finally made it above freezing after a long, cold week. But with the wind chill still below freezing, you might want to keep your feet and legs dry if strolling on a beach. And on a day when some random larger waves roll in, it is easier to get a surprised feet soaking.

The wind during the last snow storm whipped some areas bare and piled it high in others, sometimes making it look like waves on a lake rolling in instead of snow drifts. By the end of January, seeing waves on a lake not frozen would be a welcome sight.

The wind is still blowing hard this morning but the forecast says it will start calming late this afternoon so then the waves can start to become more gentle again.

The wind gusting to 50 mph was blowing the light coating of snow all around. It would have been interesting to see what the waves looked like today on Lake Superior from the wind but it would have been a very chilly adventure.

These seagulls braved the waves and high winds while on the shore of Lake Superior during a nor’easter but at least they weren’t out in the blizzard yesterday with blowing snow.
