The new layer of snow had lots of deer tracks to look at, but tracks in the snow just are not as colorful as summertime walks when the flowers are blooming even if some of the blossoms are white.

The Wild Germanium blossoms were finally catching some sunlight, especially in the glow as the sun was about ready to slip below the horizon.

This Mother’s Day was different as many people were not able to gather in traditional ways. I did pick dandelions for my mom’s bouquet, but since it was cloudy and the flowers had some ice pellets overnight, the dandelions blossoms didn’t full open up. So in addition to the normal yellow flowers, I added some wood violets, which is Wisconsin’s state flower.

A sunny spring Sunday was a good day to check out the new wildflower blossoms, such as the trilliums, wood anemones, yellow trout lilies and the bright yellow of the marsh marigolds.

The first native wildflowers had poked up a few days ago but the blossoms remained closed, but with the warmer temperatures today, they finally opened up. But they probably will wish they remained under the ground if it snows tomorrow.

For the first full day of spring, the white falling wasn’t flower petals dropping from blossoms but those cold snowflakes instead. And the temperatures barely reached freezing so felt more wintry than springlike.

The old saying “April showers bring May flowers” doesn’t quite work for the showers in March. The March rain does bring more water as the rain melts more of the snow pack. Eventually the spring flowers will return but no hint of them in my woods yet.

The bees were busy in the blossoms of the lupines and the flowers add a splash of blue-violet color in the fields.

The Virginia Bluebells buds start out in a pink color and turns blue as the blossoms open up. Although this one stem of blooms seem to have missed the memo that they were supposed to change color. The pink are like the warm temperatures of yesterday and the blue for the cold weather today. On rare occasions they are white, which I am glad I didn’t see or that might suggest snow.
