It may be the start of a new month, but it is still too early to find any flowers blooming outside. And tomorrow the groundhog will tell us how soon we might see flowers peeking up through the snow.

The sun tried to poke through the clouds after the snow overnight with a few flakes falling in the afternoon. But it didn’t take long before there was plenty of critter tracks in the fresh coating of white stuff.

My cats enjoyed a quick run outside but my girl had a hard time trying to keep all four paws off the cold ground at the same time. They probably are wishing for green grass and warmer temperatures.

This acorn cap makes me think of Scrat, the saber-toothed squirrel from the Ice Age films, and I can picture him tugging on the cap in an attempt to get to the acorn out of the snow and ice.

By afternoon, most of the new snow fell off the trees but some traces of the white decoration remained. The new snow sparkled in the sunshine and looked pretty except for all the snow on my driveway.

I have had trouble with critters getting into places where they shouldn’t be and I noticed squirrel tracks going under my shed. And for a moment, I thought the squirrels had tunneled inside my shed and were roasting chestnuts on an open fire. But there wasn’t a fire in my building as it was just the glare of the setting sun reflecting off the window.

New snowfall is often a draw to kids to make snow angels and apparently for critters too, as a bird made this one in the new coating of snow yesterday.

There have been interesting tracks in the new coating of snow over the last several days. Especially when i spotted both squirrel and birds tracks that slipped on the hidden ice under the snow. And I don’t mind the squirrel tracks going between the trees, but I don’t like the tracks heading to my bird feeders.

The morning started out extra white again but not from frost this time, but heavy wet snow that caused many tree limbs bend towards the ground but at least the wind and temperature just above freezing helped to remove the snow from the trees.

The trees were fairly free of frost this morning without the foggy start of the day. The sun was out for part of the day but there wasn’t much rime ice left to shine on, not like earlier in the month when the white formations popped against the blue sky.
